How to Propagate A Peperomia & Where to Buy One for Yourself

The Peperomia plant is one of the many awesome plants you can keep in your home. They give you benefits in more than one way. Not only are these plants used for aesthetic purposes but they are also used as an air purifier for they can clean the area within its perimeters. In addition to that, the round-shaped peperomia plants are known to bring luck and fortune to their owners and their home.

Of course, a single plant won't be able to clean all the areas in your home, you will be needing a couple of them to make sure that every inch of your house will have purified air. The great thing about this plant is that it can be easily propagated, which means that you do not have to worry about spending a lot of money on buying this plant. You can simply just a couple of them at your favorite plant store and let them grow for a couple of months which then you can propagate so that you can produce as many as you like and would have enough to place around the house.

Now that you know all of these things, the next thing you have to figure out is where to buy a peperomia plant. Peperomia’s are quite common but at the same time, they are also famous houseplants so usually most stores will be selling them, although they may not have it all the time, for they can be easily sold out because of their popularity, luckily, you also have another option on where you can easily find them. Click here to know more about the store that sells peperomia plant.

Once you have bought your peperomia plant, what should be on your mind now is, how to care for the peperomia plant? How will I keep them alive? These are both great questions that have very simple answers since peperomia plants are also very simple and easy to take care of. They are low maintenance plant that makes them, one of the great choices for beginner plant parents.

I know that most of us are forced to stay inside our homes and look at the same stuff everyday which can be a little boring, but what you can do about that is spice things up a little by adding a plant and some decoration for the perfect home office or remote workstation.

How to take care of peperomia plants

Peperomia plant loves to have bright indirect light. As a matter of fact, they love it so much that they do not get the amount of sunlight needed, they will stop growing. They can be placed next to a window that gets a sufficient amount of sunlight for the best growth. The Peperomias are slow growers which simply means that sunlight is very important to them, if you cannot give them the right amount of sunlight they need, you can always give them artificial light to get them through the day.

In watering, you should take note that these plants love to be a little dry in between watering them, one of the things that the peperomia plant doesn’t want is to be overwatered. Being overwatered may cause many problems to your peperomia plants for they have sensitive roots that could lead to root rot when they are overwatered.

For more healthy growth, our pant needs to be in the right temperature. You know that your peperomias are not in the ideal temperature if they start showing unhealthy signs of growth and may cause great damage.

The best soil for peperomia plants is the soil that mimics the condition that they usually grow in the wild which is a slightly decaying bark of a tree. The best example for this soil is orchid soil, you may also use regular soil that is lightened with some peat moss.

How to propagate Peperomia

As mentioned earlier, propagating peperomia is easy peasy and in fact, there are a couple of ways to do it, if you find one to be more effective than others, you can definitely keep doing that, in the end, it will all be up to you.

  1. Stem cutting - This is one of the ways on how to propagate the peperomia plant, in order to do this, you just have to simply, make a clean cut from the stem of the peperomia just below the node, and that cutting can either be placed directly in soil or you can also wait for it to root in a glass of water. When doing water propagation in a glass jar, make sure the leaf is not touching the water as it can rot easily.  Also, you have to place the jar in the area of the house that reaches sunlight. You also want to make sure that you frequently change the water in your glass jar to make sure that it’s clean and that there would be no other organism that will grow in that water.
  2. Leaf Cutting - For the leaf-cutting, it is basically the same as the stem cutting, what you would be doing for the stem cutting is the same for the leaf-cutting. You also can do it in two ways, after you have your leaf cutting, you can either plant it directly in soil and wait for it to grow, or, if you want to be more confident, you can let the leaf root first in water for more successful propagation. Placing your leaf cutting in water can be difficult as what can only touch the water is the end of the leaf where the roots can form so this is best-paced in smaller jars with narrow openings to keep the leaf upright.

Peperomias have different types with different shapes and sizes, but I can guarantee you that, each of them is beautiful in its own way. It is definitely a great houseplant to keep because of its ease of care, you wont have to worry a lot about them and they can just sit still but still look magnificent.
