There is no doubt that Palm Trees are truly majestic plants that are a definite must-have in your own homes. Its distinctive leaves are bright green color can surely attract the attention of your visitors. It can certainly bring any area of the house to life with its presence.

Palm plants have been considered a very important plant to humanity throughout history for having many common food and products come from this plant.

Their scientific name is Arecaceae which is a family of perennial flowering plants. They can grow as shrubs, climbers, tree-like, and stemless plants and are all commonly known as palms. Plants that have tree-like characteristics are called palm trees.

They are tropical plants that originated in places like South America, Asia, and the Caribbean. This plant is characterized by having large leaves placed at the top of the tree in an arranged branchless stem.

These plants love the tropics but it is said that if you place them in a location where you are comfortable with the temperature, they too will be more likely to be comfortable as well.  if They are plants that may occasionally require attention. But they are quite easy to take care of. Here are some of the care tips for your palm indoor plants.

Since there are a lot of types of Palm plants, they do not have the same way of taking care of them. Some palm plants may require more humidity than others and some may require more sunlight while some want shade.

1. For Sunlight

Most palm plants are great indoor plants for they can tolerate low light conditions, but even if they are tropical plants,  they do not like it when they are placed under direct light they are susceptible to getting their leaves burnt.

2. Humidity

Palm plants are humid-loving plants they do not like areas with low humidity for it can cause dryness. These plants will be fine in the average household temperature but it is still best to give them a little misting every once in a while or get your plants a humidifier.

3. In watering

Palm plants require loads of water but you need to make sure that their pots have drainage holes because even if they love to be a bit moist, they can still get root rot if they are overwatered. A best practice is to let the water drain out of the holes completely. Terracotta pots are great pots for palm plants because the walls of the pots draw the water out of the soil and help the soil dry quicker.

4. For the Soil

For the Soil of Palm plants, it’s best to use a well-draining potting mix soil. Keeping them in soil that is always moist may cause this plant to have root rot. A loose and phorous soil mixture is the best for these plants. If you are on the stage of having a growing palm plant, a cactus or palm soil is best. But if you tend to forget to water your plants, what you can do is mix some peat moss or vermiculite to your soil to help retain moisture.

5. Fertilizer

Palm plants can benefit from fertilizer from time to time especially during their growing season. It’s recommended to choose a fertilizer especially for palm plants to promote healthier foliage. Leaves turning yellow or brown may mean that they are in need of some feeding.

6. Propagating

There may be sometime wherein some of the fronds of the leaves of your palm plant may turn yellow or brown and you may be tempted to remove one or two of them but this is actually not recommended, if you wish to remove brown or yellow fronds, you should just remove the entire leaf of the plant as removing only some fronds can weaken your entire plant.

7. Repotting

We all know that repotting plants can benefit the plant and promote healthier growth, but this is not really the case for palm plants. For them repotting should only be done when it is necessary for they do not really want their root system disturbed.  Since some palm plants are grown indoors not repotting them frequently won’t make them grow fast, if you want to keep them a bit  short or if you just simply don’t want them to grow really big, you can just keep them in their pot for a while
